Arizona Wildcats quarterback Khalil Tate will not be available for coach Kevin Sumlin as his team takes on UCLA Saturday.

Tate injured his ankle on Friday, in a 42-10 loss to Utah, and was removed from the game in the first quarter.

In his place, Arizona primarily turned to sophomore Rhett Rodriguez, the son of former head coach Rich Rodriguez. Rhett finished with 226 yards passing and completed 20-for-38 pass attempts. Freshman Jamarye Joiner also saw action against Utah, completing three-of-four passes and rushing for five yards on five attempts.

The loss to Utah, which moved the Wildcats’ record to 3-4 on the season, means that Arizona will have to win three of its next five games to earn bowl eligibility. Two of those five teams are against ranked teams in Oregon and Washington State. The other three are against Colorado, a season-ending clash against Arizona State and the aforementioned UCLA game.

Tate originally injured his ankle on Sept. 8 against Houston, but has played in five games since then. He has started the last 15 games for Arizona since breaking onto the scene as a sophomore last season.
