Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim compared the Thursday night loss to the Denver Broncos to a 2013 throttling at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.

“I haven’t felt like this since the game that we lost 58-0,” he said on Doug & Wolf Show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station on Friday morning.

On Thursday night, the Cardinals lost 45-10. The Broncos defense outscored the Arizona offense.

“This isn’t good enough and last night, the game that was on display on national television, quite frankly, embarrassing,” Keim said. “We all know that.”

The Cardinals announced the firing of offensive coordinator Mike McCoy shortly after Keim’s appearance on Friday morning. Quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich will assume the OC duties.

“Everybody in this organization is being evaluated and we gotta make the improvements that are necessary,” Keim said.

He later expressed confidence in head coach Steve Wilks’ leadership skills and passion.

“We’re going to have some long, hard conversations that are necessary to get this thing turned in the right direction,” Keim said. “It’s why I think he was right for the job, because he will fight.”

In the days leading up to the game, Broncos linebacker Von Miller said Denver was “going to kick their [expletive].”

Keim thought it might motivate Arizona.

“What I would expect is for us to come out and fight and show everybody that’s not that kind of football team we are,” he said.

Instead, Miller forced two fumbles as the Cardinals turned the ball over five times and fell to a 1-6 record.

“We’re embarrassed and again, it gets back to having to make a lot of tough decisions, sometimes ones that aren’t popular, and that’s the only way we’re going to climb out of this hole,” Keim said.

The general manager said an organization can find out a lot about itself when it’s in a situation like this.

“You have two choices: You can curl up in a ball and hope it goes away, which it’s not, or you can come out swinging and fight,” he said. “And as far as I’m concerned, I’m coming out swinging.”
