The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed pitcher Artie Lewicki off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

Drafted in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Tigers, Lewicki played in 25 games between the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens and Detroit in 2018. The D-backs placed him on the 60-day disabled list after Lewicki underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 31.

In 12 games (61.2 IP) with the Mud Hens, the 26-year-old went 5-6 with a 4.67 ERA. He struck out 55 batters and gave up 32 runs with a 1.30 WHIP.

Playing in a total of 13 games with the Tigers, Lewicki started three times for Detroit in 2018. He posted an 0-2 record with a 4.89 ERA while striking out 30. He also allowed 24 runs.

The right-hander recently underwent Tommy John surgery in August, his second such procedure.

Due to the timing of the surgery, it’s likely Lewicki will miss the 2019 season.

The Lewicki transaction is the latest D-backs move since the regular season came to a close.

On Monday, the team agreed on a three-year deal with midseason trade acquisition Eduardo Escobar as Arizona looks toward next season.
