The Arizona Coyotes announced on Thursday that forward Mario Kempe has been assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners.

Kempe, 30, has played in four games this season and registered zero points.

The move comes a day after Kempe was reportedly placed on waivers.

Kempe wasn’t waiver exempt, according to CapFriendly, so his demotion to the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate came because he cleared waivers.

The return of Alex Galchenyuk, one of the Coyotes’ major offseason additions, as well as Josh Archibald took away minutes at forward for Kempe.

Kempe, 30, played in 18 games for the Coyotes last season and scored four points.

The Sweden native was selected in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Philadephia Flyers.

His brother, Adrian, plays for the Los Angeles Kings.
