The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday they’ve exercised a team option on first baseman Paul Goldschmidt for 2019.

MLB.com reporter Steve Gilbert tweeted that the option is worth $14.5 million.

The 2019 club option is the final year of team control on Goldschmidt’s deal, which began in 2014 as a five-year, $32 million contract. The club option for 2019 could’ve alternatively been bought out for $2 million, per Spotrac.

All things considered, it’s a team-friendly deal for the D-backs, who have seen the eighth-round pick of 2009 finish top-three in MVP voting three times and appear in six All-Star games in his eight years with Arizona.

With more than 1,000 games played, Goldschmidt is a .297 career hitter with 209 home runs and 710 RBI. Last season, the three-time Silver Slugger Award winner hit .290 with a .922 OPS, 33 home runs, 83 RBI and 95 runs scored. He has never hit lower than .286 for a full season.

According to Spotrac, Yasmany Tomas also has an option on his deal, but not one for the team to exercise. His is a player opt-out clause for 2019 and 2020, the final two years of a six-year, $68.5 million deal that began in 2015. Tomas did not appear in a major league game last year, spending the entirety of his season with the Triple-A Reno Aces. He hit .262 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI in Reno.
