The Arizona Cardinals signed offensive lineman Colby Gossett off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad and also added veteran tight end John Phillips on Tuesday, the team announced.

To make room for the two players, the Cardinals released offensive lineman Blaine Clausell and tight end Gabe Holmes.

Additionally, Arizona signed free agent defensive end Vontarrius Dora and offensive lineman Kyle Friend to the practice squad while releasing kicker Matt McCrane and defensive end Ufomba Kamalu.

Arizona made the moves ahead of the NFL trade deadline at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday.

Gossett was the Vikings’ sixth-round pick (213th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-5, 311-pound Appalachian State product has been on Minnesota’s practice squad the entire regular season.

Phillips brings 112 games of NFL experience. He has played for Dallas (2009-12), San Diego (2013-15), Denver (2016) and New Orleans (2016), reeling in 55 catches for 390 yards and five touchdowns during his career. He could be viewed as an upgrade over Holmes, who in his third season was playing behind second-year pro Ricky Seals-Jones and veteran Jermaine Gresham.

Of the notable practice squad moves that went through Tuesday was the addition of Dora, who flashed in the preseason with Arizona, recording five tackles and 3.0 sacks in three games before being released.

The release of McCrane, a rookie who spent the preseason with the Cardinals and was re-signed last week, is an indication that starting kicker Phil Dawson’s hip injury heading into the Week 8 game against San Francisco is not lingering after Dawson made a field goal and extra point Sunday.
