Coyotes open to opportunity following report about ownership change

Following a report that the Coyotes would soon change ownership, the team has said that it is open to opportunities to improve its organization but would not say that any changes are imminent.
A report released Tuesday by The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta indicated that ownership change was on the way in Arizona, and that Coyotes owner Andrew Barroway was close to striking a deal to sell some of his ownership of the Coyotes to one or multiple parties. In March, 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station already reported that Barroway was exploring potential partnerships for his ownership of the franchise and was in discussions with other investors.
“As it is every day, our team’s focus is on the ice and on doing everything possible to grow the game of hockey in Arizona,” team president and CEO Ahron Cohen said in a statement. “While we aren’t going to discuss every unsubstantiated story on the Internet, here’s what I can say: we have been — and will continue to be — open to investment opportunities that will help us achieve our long-term goals in Arizona.”
In his weekly interview on Wednesday with Doug & Wolf, Coyotes general manager John Chayka reiterated the contents of that statement.

“We’re a hockey team. We’re trying to get on the ice, play hockey, keep the focus on the ice, of course,” Chayka said. “I think everyone — it’s pretty well documented on our arena efforts, and our efforts to grow the organization and grow the sport of hockey in Arizona. And I think since Andy [Barroway] took over, he’s kind of been up front that he’s open to any investment opportunities that will allow us to achieve those goals and grow the team. I think that’s where some of the reports are coming from.
“Again, I think those are things that are always being worked through and we’re trying to find the best business model and investment strategy to continue to grow our team. But as of now, I don’t think there’s anything imminent to change, and my focus is on growing the group on the ice.”
Barroway became the majority owner of the Coyotes in December of 2014 before taking over as sole owner in June of 2017.
