The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday they had released kicker Matt McCrane after he appeared in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders.
The 24-year-old was 3-for-3 in extra point attempts on Sunday and did not attempt a field goal. He was facing Oakland, his former team, with which he was 5-for-9 in field goal attempts this year.
McCrane has played for both the Raiders and Cardinals this year in his rookie season after signing with Arizona as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State.
McCrane has been on the Cardinals’ practice squad this year, as well. In college, he hit 86.4 percent of his field goal attempts.
The veteran kicker Phil Dawson is expected to play for the Cardinals this upcoming Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. He missed the game against Oakland due to a hip injury.
This season, Dawson — a 20-year veteran — is 4-for-6 on field goal attempts and is 14-for-14 on extra point attempts. His two misses on field goals were each on attempts greater than 40 yards out.
