Rookie Sam Acho grasps new scheme, sees results

Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton’s new
scheme is known as complicated and difficult to learn.
Lucky for rookie linebacker Sam Acho, he is probably one
of the smartest players on the team.
The fourth-round draft pick out of University of Texas
holds a business honors major as well a marketing major.
Needless to say, he is prepared to handle any type of
scheme Horton throws at him.
“It’s funny because I thought we had a crazy scheme at
U.T. with Will Muschamp, our defensive coordinator, and
now we’re at this level and it’s even that much more
complex and that much more difficult to understand,” Acho
told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf.
Acho says he is getting a hold of the defensive system,
and his increased production backs up that claim. Acho has
two sacks in the last three games.
“Once you understand the defense there is no second
guessing,” Acho said. “It may take a while to get it, it
may take a while to really know what you’re doing, but
once you know it you can see a huge difference.”
The Cardinals have won two in a row and the defense is
owed a lot of credit for those victories. They have held
the St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles to an average
of 15 points.
“I think a lot of people are starting to see that with our
team, with our defense,” Acho said. “Guys are starting to
learn the defense better and then there’s no more
hesitation.”
