Snapshot: Cardinals trampled by 49ers

It was good to see at least one Sun Devil enjoy some success this weekend. Former ASU standout Kyle Williams caught five passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. It looked like he will be able to figure into the 49ers offense for a while to come. The 49ers look like they're the real deal this season. Not only do they have a commanding lead over the NFC West, but they looked sharp on all sides of the ball. They may have beat the Cardinals, but at least the Cardinals join the ranks of teams like Cincinnati, Detroit and the New York Giants. 49ers kicker David Akers missed three kicks Sunday, but two of those were do to the Cardinals special teams. Calais Campbell and Patrick Peterson both blocked a field goal, marking two of the Cardinals' bright moments on the day. They didn't have many others to speak of. The 49ers defense and specials teams had a field day with the Cardinals. Somehow, the Cards managed to put 223 total yards on the board, but most of those came against the 49ers backups or deeper. San Francisco gained five turnovers, including the one pictured above on a punt return. So much for a quarterback controversy.
After putting together two consecutive wins, Cardinals quarterback John Skelton was touted as the future of the organization and a possible starter over Kevin Kolb, but that talk likely ceased Sunday. Skelton went 6-for-19 with three interceptions. Backup Rich Bartel put up better numbers, not to mention the Cardinals lone touchdowns, after Skelton was benched.
