Pollsters didn’t ding the No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils for a neutral site loss to the sixth-ranked Nevada Wolfpack. In fact, due to outside factors, a two-win week for Nevada over two Arizona schools bumped it down to No. 7 in the poll released on Monday.
ASU fell to Nevada, 72-66, on Friday after losing a 12-point halftime lead in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic matchup in Las Vegas.
Luguentz Dort scored 24 points and Zylan Cheatham had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun Devils (7-1), whose 20-game, regular-season non-conference winning streak ended.
The Wolfpack followed the game with a 74-66 win over Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
Nevada’s victory on Sunday at Talking Stick Resort was the second game of the Colangelo Classic, which began with No. 7 Tennessee’s upset over unbeaten No. 1 Gonzaga.
The Volunteers’ win led to them leapfrogging teams like Nevada to move them up to No. 3.
With the Zags’ loss, Kansas moved atop the AP Poll and was followed by Duke, Tennessee, Gonzaga and Michigan to round out the top-five.
