The Arizona Coyotes have sent goaltender Adin Hill and forward Conor Garland to AHL Tucson, the team announced on Wednesday.

The news comes just hours before the league’s “holiday roster freeze,” which goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. local time on Dec. 19. It permits teams from trading, placing players on waivers or loaning players (sending them to AHL, foreign teams, etc.) until 12:01 a.m. local time on Dec. 28.

During the roster freeze, though, teams are allowed to recall players. That means that Garland and Hill would both be eligible to come back to the Coyotes’ NHL roster at any time should the team need or want them to do so.

According to CapFriendly, the team already had an open roster spot before sending the two players back to Tucson and now has just 11 forwards on its roster.

General manager John Chayka said on Doug & Wolf on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station Wednesday that the club is hopeful forward Vinnie Hinostroza — who has a lower-body injury — will be back in the lineup before the Christmas break that begins on Christmas Eve.

“Hopeful it’s before the break, but if not, hopefully soon after the break,” Chayka said.
