Suns’ 110-107 loss to the Mavericks: By the numbers

Jan 18, 2014, 5:26 AM | Updated: 5:26 am

Two days removed from an impressive 121-114 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns reverted back to their recent ways — ones that led to a 1-4 road trip — in a 110-107 loss to the Dallas Mavericks Friday night.

With the three-point loss, Phoenix dropped to a game behind Dallas in the Western Conference standings.

Here’s a look back at the home defeat, the Suns’ sixth of the 2013-14 season, by the numbers.

4.16

Phoenix has dropped six of its nine games in the month of January by an average of 4.16 points per contest. Friday night’s loss was the third straight decided by three points or less.

5

Third-year forward Markieff Morris followed up a 24-point, seven-rebound performance against the Lakers with his fifth double-double (23 points and 12 rebounds) of the campaign against the Mavericks. It also marked the seventh time this season the former first-round pick surpassed the 20-point mark.

18

Dallas guard Shane Larkin poured in a career-high 18 points Friday. Before arriving in Phoenix, Larkin had combined to score 18 points in his last seven games.

31.8

While the Suns connected on four three-point shots in the fourth quarter, the team’s struggles from distance in the month of January continued against the Mavericks. On the night, Phoenix hit just 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) from downtown.

43.6

Suns forward P.J. Tucker’s most effective spot from distance is on either corner of the arc. Tucker came into the night, shooting 43.6 on three-point shots from the corner, however the third-year pro’s game-tying attempt from the corner rimmed out in the waning seconds of the loss.

60

Phoenix came into the Western Conference clash averaging 41.4 paint points per game, however Jeff Hornacek’s squad recorded 60 in a losing effort. The Suns have had at least 60 paint points in each of their last two games.

.714

Dating back to the 2010-11 season, Dallas has won five of the last seven games its played in Phoenix — good for a .741 winning percentage.

100

The Suns allowed 100 points for the fifth time in their last six games, including two consecutive 110-plus performances at home.

Prior to its current five-game home stand, Phoenix had only allowed 110 or more points at home on two occasions.
