The Arizona Cardinals are hiring former Denver Broncos defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson for the same position, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Robertson spent the last two seasons under former Broncos and current Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph in Denver.
Robertson has been coaching NFL secondaries since 2009, spending three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He then coached the Detroit Lions’ secondary in 2013 before joining the Oakland Raiders from 2014-16 and spending the last two seasons of his stint in Oakland as defensive backs coach before moving on to the Broncos.
In his time coaching defensive backs, Robertson has had four different players make the Pro Bowl.
The former free safety played for 12 seasons in the NFL, namely being an All-Pro First Team selection for the Houston/Tennesee Oilers in 1993 and 1997. A fourth-round pick in the 1991 NFL Draft, Robertson had 24 career interceptions and 72 passes defensed.
David Merritt was the Cardinals’ defensive backs coach this past season and held the role for only one year.
