After covering the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots, former Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely revealed some interesting comments from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the production meetings for the broadcast on CBS.

“We had a great talk with him,” Feely said on the Doug & Wolf Show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “Patrick Mahomes was almost a little defiant about Kliff Kingsbury.

“He was glowing in his reports about Kliff Kingsbury and who he’ll be as a head coach.”

Mahomes told Feely that a lot of the criticism that Kingsbury has received since his hiring has been the same he received going into the draft.

Kingsbury coached Mahomes for three seasons in college and guided him to 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns in his career at Texas Tech.

There, the duo implemented the air-raid offense that many skeptics do not believe can be successful in the NFL.

“In those meetings you cover a lot of different topics with a lot of different people,” Feely said. “It was something that Patrick Mahomes brought up on his own.

“The fact that he believes he’ll succeed. The fact that he believes his schemes translate to the NFL.”

Kingsbury takes over for Steve Wilks who was fired after just one season in Arizona. He will be the third different head coach to start the year for the Cardinals in the last three seasons.
