Cardinals players are hyped for Larry Fitzgerald’s return

Objectively, Larry Fitzgerald is a well-liked dude.

His Arizona Cardinals teammates have plenty of stories. For center A.Q. Shipley, it was a brief request for a tip on a nice golf course in London a few years back that explained the generosity of Fitzgerald as a teammate.

“Called him up and I’m like, ‘Hey, is there a golf course that you know over here that you know any connections, that you can get me on?'” Shipley told Doug & Wolf on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “He was like, ‘Gimme 10 minutes, I’ll get back to you.’ Calls me back and he’s like, ‘Hey, you’re going at 1:30, just make sure you’re there at 1:15. Great course — they’re hosting the senior British Open there in a couple of weeks.’

“I show up, there’s no cars in the parking lot. The course had been closed down for four months because they were getting it ready for the senior British Open,” Shipley recalled. “Did he just bamboozle me? I’m confused. There’s nobody here. This guy comes walking out. He’s like, ‘Hey, I’m your caddie today. Mr. Fitzgerald called and got it all set up.’ It was him and I on the course.”

So there’s a snapshot of playing with Fitzgerald, whose announcement on Wednesday that he’ll return to play a 16th season with the Cardinals unsurprisingly went over well with teammates.

From golfing partner Patrick Peterson (who spoke on the matter at the Pro Bowl) to mentee Christian Kirk, here are a few Cardinals who publicly expressed their excitement about the return of their long-time leader.
