Hiring head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s staff appears to be about adding diverse perspectives.

The Arizona Cardinals went the nontraditional route by hiring Kingsbury himself, but they also have taken a unique approach to adding his assistants, many of whom the head coach doesn’t have experience with. They hired defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who himself is coming off a two-year run as the Broncos’ head coach, then placed veteran NFL quarterbacks coach Tom Clements under Kingsbury.

Now, Arizona continues to sniff around the college game, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports they have interviewed Clemson Tigers coaching intern and former NFL quarterback J.P. Losman for a job, presumably as an offensive assistant.

He and Kingsbury, both quarterbacks, played together in 2006 with the Buffalo Bills.

Losman was the 22nd overall pick by the Bills in 2004 and played with the team that drafted him through 2008. He then played for the Oakland Raiders (2009), Seattle Seahawks (2010) and Miami Dolphins (2011), finishing his career competing 59 percent of his passes for 6,271 yards, 33 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

Losman has not played since 2011 and has served as Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s intern the past two seasons.

If hired, Losman would join Kingsbury and assistant offensive line coach Brian Natkin as the third known staffer hired without prior NFL coaching experience.

Previously, Arizona reportedly interviewed Texas State head coach Jake Spavital, presumably for a more prominent assistant position before the team hired Clements as pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
