The Arizona Diamondbacks traded right-handed relief pitcher Jake Barrett to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday for cash considerations.

Barrett was designated for assignment on Thursday when the team announced its signing of reliever Greg Holland.

The 27-year-old Barrett appeared in 103 games over parts of three seasons with the D-backs, who drafted Barrett in the third round of the 2012 draft from Arizona State University.

In 2018, Barrett pitched only seven games at the big league level, registering seven innings of work and allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks and six strikeouts. He pitched 42 games in Reno with a 2.87 ERA.

He owned a 5.03 ERA in 35 major league games the last two seasons since putting up a 3.49 ERA in 2016 in 68 games.

Barrett’s place on the 40-man roster is taken by the aforementioned Holland, who won the 2014 American League Reliever of the Year award and is a three-time All-Star.

Holland was a member of the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals in 2015 as he made 32 saves that year. Holland had a 4.66 ERA between the Cardinals and Nationals last season.
