Jazz drown out Suns in smattering: By The Numbers

Feb 27, 2014, 5:57 AM | Updated: 5:57 am

The first number in this by-the-numbers story on the Phoenix Suns’ loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday should probably be 1.

Because, boy, that was one hard-to-watch game.

Without Goran Dragic, who was sidelined with a sprained right ankle, the Suns looked completely overmatched by a mediocre Jazz team on Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

They scored their fewest points under Jeff Hornacek and struggled to find any kind of offensive flow, ultimately losing 109-86.

Here’s a closer look at the loss, by the numbers:

1

Like Kevin Love the night before, Gordon Hayward came just one assist shy of recording a triple-double on the night. The second-year shooting guard scored 17 to go along with 10 rebounds and nine assists.

4

Archie Goodwin hit his fourth three-pointer of the season on Wednesday as part of his 16 total points. The bucket made him 4-for-31 on the season in three-point attempts.

7

Seven Jazz players found their scoring totals in double digits before the end of the night. Only Marvin Williams managed less than 10 points among the Jazz who played more than 20 minutes.

8

The player wearing No. 8 for the Jazz, Diante Garrett, made the most of his 21 minutes against his former team, which cut him over the summer. He tallied 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (3-for-4 from three-point range) while adding a pair of assists, steals and rebounds. The 15 points were a career high for Garrett.

18.0

The Jazz managed to shoot 18.0 percent better than the Suns on Wednesday, hitting 56.8 percent of their shots from the floor. The Suns’ 38.8 shooting percentage was largely owed to their cold outside shooting, which closed the night at a 6-for-19 mark.

19

Another Dionte — this one of the seasonal and ‘O’ variety — had a high on Wednesday. Dionte Christmas played a season-high 19 minutes with Dragic on the bench, tallying seven points, three assists and three rebounds.

50

The Jazz managed 50 points in the paint on Wednesday, thanks to a 15-point performance by center Derrick Favors. The Suns only had 36.
