Report: INF Manny Machado agrees to historic contract with Padres

The Arizona Diamondbacks will be facing MLB’s highest-paid player on a regular basis.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the San Diego Padres have agreed to a deal with star infielder Manny Machado.
His contract is over 10 years and worth $300 million, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, making it the largest free-agent contract awarded to a pro athlete in American sports history.
Machado was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and in 66 games playing in the NL West slashed .273/.367/.487.
Over the entire 2018 season, he hit 37 home runs, tied for ninth-most in MLB. His .905 OPS was a career-high.
The seven-year pro spent 2012-18 with the Orioles and has hit more than 32 home runs in each of his last four seasons.
Machado and former Nationals star Bryce Harper were among the most sought-after free agents this spring. Harper remains unsigned as the free agent market hit a freeze with teams not willing to pay some of the top players their desired amounts.
