98.7 FM listeners tell their favorite stories of meeting the famous

“Who is the most famous person you have ever sat near at a game, restaurant or event? And did you talk to them?”
That was the question posed to the Bickley & Marotta listeners over Twitter on Thursday. And the responses came flooding in.
Since 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station is indeed a sports program, many of the 200-plus responses were about fans meeting their favorite athletes. Some of the memories were so dull they were hilarious. Others were obscure.
Without fact-checking the truthfulness of our listeners’ messages, here are a select handful of the best stories of sports fans meeting the famous.

I was on an airplane in one of those seats by the emergency exit door. there was no seat in front of me. Robert Horry came out of first class and asked to swap seats because I had more legroom than he did. I looked at him and I said you’re Robert Horry. He said yes. I said no

Met Hakeem Olajuwon when I was 11 at an asian restaurant in PHX. My uncle told me it was Bo Outlaw. When I asked for an autograph him and his agent laughed and walked away. I still hate my uncle to this day.

Mark Grace in a bar in San Francisco while I was wearing his jersey after a game against the Giants. Yes I did talk to him after he spotted my jersey and said ” now there’s a guy with some class”, he signed my jersey with bartenders pen, Jersey is framed in my home, Great guy!

Sat next to and was friends with Rob Gronkowski in my freshman math class at UofA and was in his homework group all semester, guy is EXACTLY the same in private as he is in public – super goofy, funny, and friendly. Actually showed up to class every day and did all his work too
