Arizona State Sun Devil football fans will become accustomed to hearing about a different “Wilkins” this season — Roe Wilkins.
The defensive tackle transferred from Rice to Arizona State, SunDevilSource announced via Twitter Wednesday.
Wilkins is coming into his redshirt senior year and is eligible to play immediately for the Sun Devils.
The last two seasons, the former Rice Owl has received two honorable mentions for All-Conference USA, which is voted on by the conference’s coaches.
Last season, he was tied for fourth on the team with 50 tackles.
In 2017, Wilkins led all Conference USA interior linemen with 6.5 sacks, which is tied for 10th all-time on the Rice single-season sack list.
He will be joining a Sun Devils team that was 10th in the Pac-12 last season in rushing yards allowed a game (170.5) and in a four-way tie for fifth in sacks (29).
Wilkins will be one of only 12 redshirt seniors on the team next season and one of only two on the D-line.
