Free agent Max Garcia has signed with the Arizona Cardinals, the announced in a prelease Saturday.
Garcia, who was a 2015 fourth-round pick by the Broncos, will reunite with two former Denver coaches: former head coach Vance Joseph (2017-18) and former offensive line coach Sean Kugler (2018). He will also reunite with fellow former Florida Gators teammate D.J. Humphries, who Arizona selected 24th overall in the same draft class.
Garcia is coming off an ACL tear suffered in mid-November.
Primarily a left guard, he also played some right guard in his first four years in the NFL. Garcia has started in 41 games and played in 56 total.
The Cardinals have been busy rebuilding an offensive line that was hit by injuries and poor production last season.
They have reportedly agreed to a deal with former Seattle Seahawks guard J.R. Sweezy, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, and traded a 2019 sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire tackle Marcus Gilbert. The Cardinals have additionally tendered guard Jeremy Vujnovich, an exclusive rights free agent.
Arizona needs extra bodies with an MCL injury ending guard Justin Pugh’s 2018 season and free agent left guard Mike Iupati, guard/tackle John Wetzel and guard Oday Aboushi among those potentially leaving.
Iupati has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced Thursday. Aboushi, a midseason pickup last year who ended the year healthy, has already agreed to join the Detroit Lions.
