The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned left-handed pitcher Robby Scott to Triple-A Reno, the team announced in a press release Sunday.

Scott, 29, was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds on December 30 for cash considerations.

“When you battle this hard as a player and you get down to that final day or two, it kind of stings a little bit,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said.

“But Robby took it well and I know that we’ll get a chance to see him back here at the big league level.”

The former Florida State Seminole has three years of MLB experience after being signed by the Boston Red Sox in 2011 after a spell with the Yuma Scorpions, an independent league team.

Scott has posted a career 3.91 ERA with 44 strikeouts and a 1.200 WHIP over his 48.1 career innings. However, 35.2 of those innings came in 2017. The left-hander also never made the playoff roster during his tenure in Boston.

In his eight innings pitched in nine appearances for Arizona this spring, Scott allowed three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and a 3.38 ERA to go along with a 1.125 WHIP.

The D-backs now have 30 active players left in camp. That number needs to be 25 by opening day on Thursday.

“We have some big decisions to make and we’re finalizing that right now,” Lovullo said.
