ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

New food items highlight D-backs’ additions to Chase Field

The Arizona Diamondbacks are no strangers to wild and fun food items, and the tradition continued Monday as the team showcased its new eats at Chase Field.

The D-backs, in partnership with Sports Illustrated, had already announced three hot dogs that will each be available for two different months during the season. But on Monday, the team also rolled out other new food items, served up by Levy Restaurants and Chase Field senior executive chef Stephen Tilder.

From a Jalapeno Popper Dog to an all-vegan burger from Paradise Valley Burger Co., this year’s new food options are like year’s past: innovative and unusual.

“It’s fun to come up with creative ideas that fans look forward to each year to come out and try,” Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall said Monday. “And we call them our ‘wow items,’ and they’ve been a big hit I’d say, for easily the last four or five years. But our chef and his team keep becoming so creative year after year.”

Here’s a list of what’s going to be available at Chase Field in 2019, and see below for more new features at the ballpark:

Chicken and Donuts: Tyson popcorn chicken with donut holes, powdered sugar and maple syrup. $11 — Gonzo’s Grill

Mediterranean Vegan Wrap: Spinach tortilla with mock chicken, hummus, cucumber and olive tapenade. $12 — Taste of Chase and Burger Burger

New Team Shop items:

Chase Field’s team shops will offer new gear in 2019 that include four different men’s Tommy Bahama shirts (not pictured) and men’s and women’s apparel from Mitchell and Ness, New Era and ’47 Brand.

COX Virtual Meet and Greet:

The D-backs had a virtual reality experience in their ballpark already, but in 2019, fans can take a selfie during a virtual meet-and-greet with current and past D-backs players and staff.

Fans select which D-back they’d like to meet and get a digitally-autographed photo sent to them via text or email. Fans can choose to meet David Peralta, Archie Bradley, Yoshi Hirano, Torey Lovullo, Luis Gonzalez, Randy Johnson, Derrick Hall or Baxter.

“The VR has really been about demand,” Hall said. “We had the home run derby that always had a long line and people have loved it, and we thought, ‘What else can we do? Something that’s new?’ We’re going to continue to have that, and we’ll bring in a lot of new material and new content during the season.”
