SI writer ranks Kevin Kolb among the NFL’s worst

Kevin Kolb’s struggles this season have been well
documented, but you’d have to think a sterling second half
in a win over the Cowboys would improve his standing among
the national media.

Think again.

Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter ranks
the NFL’s signal callers on a weekly basis, and Arizona’s
QB comes in at 28, ahead of just Rex Grossman, Sam
Bradford, Blaine Gabbert and Tyler Palko.

It has been a miserable season for Kolb, who was acquired
in a major trade with Philadelphia. When he’s not taking
hits in the pocket, he often appears to be looking for the
pass rush. And he definitely appears uncomfortable holding
the ball in the pocket. Perhaps Sunday’s overtime win over
Dallas will boost his confidence.

Kolb, who had missed four games, returned to complete 16
of 25 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown in the win,
good for a QB rating of 109.9.

But, that wasn’t good enough for Trotter, who placed Kolb
behind studs Caleb Hanie, Colt McCoy, Dan Orlovsky and
Tarvaris Jackson this week.

Maybe it’s Trotter’s way of saying “hold on a minute,
let’s see Kolb do it more than once,” but it seems as if
Arizona’s QB is not getting his due this week.

Of course, if Kolb plays well against the 49ers Sunday,
chances are good he’ll move up in these rankings.

At least, one would hope.
