The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled utility man Tim Locastro from Triple-A Reno and have placed catcher Alex Avila on the 10-day injured list, the team announced Sunday in a press release.

Avila, who is suffering from a strained left quadriceps, is 5-for-15 on the year (.333) with two home runs, five RBIs, six walks and five runs scored in six games played.

The D-backs acquired Locastro from the Yankees in exchange for LHP Ronald Román and cash considerations back on January 16.

His lone hit in three games for Reno this season is a solo home run. The 26-year-old has spent seven years in the minor league systems of the Blue Jays (2013-15), Dodgers (2015-18) and D-backs (2019). In that time, he has a slash line of .291/.375/.403 with 29 home runs, 201 RBIs, 143 walks, 396 runs scored and 162 stolen bases in 571 games.

Baseball America rated Locastro as the fastest baserunner in the Dodgers’ system in 2018, as he is 162-for-200 (81 percent) in his career as a base stealer.

His defensive versatility is also an asset, having made appearances at second base (272 games), shortstop (130), center field (104), left field (25) and first base (14).

Locastro will don the No. 16 jersey for the Snakes.
