Dwyane Wade, like many professional athletes, likes to trade jerseys with the best opponents he faces in the NBA.
Wade has had plenty of opportunities to do so.
The Miami Heat guard has played 16 seasons in the NBA, appearing in 1,052 games and earning 13 All-Star selections along the way. He’s a three-time NBA champion, a scoring champion, three-time All-Defensive selection, Finals MVP, and more.
A recent video found a way to make all of that seem pretty insignificant.
Wade, who is playing his final NBA season, got five more “jerseys” in a video released by Budweiser on Tuesday.
The NBA veteran was brought to the center of the Heat’s home court, where he was met by five people whose lives were impacted by Wade’s efforts:
–A man who turned his life in a positive direction with inspiration from Wade
–A young woman who went to college thanks to Wade’s scholarship support
–The sister of a Parkland, Fla. shooting victim whom Wade honored in a game
–A woman whom Wade took on a shopping spree after her home burned down before Christmas
–Wade’s own mother, whose path to redemption was helped by Wade after she got out of prison
“I don’t have a jersey to trade with you, but I definitely have this,” the man said. “It’s the blazer that I wore to my first job interview.”
The others handed over similar gifts. The woman who got a scholarship gave Wade her cap and gown from graduation. The sister of the shooting victim gave Wade her brother’s basketball jersey, which had the No. 3, the same number Wade wears. And Wade’s mom gave him a jacket that’s purple, which she said is a color that represents royalty.
