Carson Palmer believes Josh Rosen is not in dark, but Cards should be vague

The longer the saga between the Arizona Cardinals, Josh Rosen, Kyler Murray and the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft goes, the more the fascination grows with it.

It’s not only the question of what the Cardinals are going to do, but do they know what they are going to do? What are they telling Rosen? Is Murray in the know?

How much did this factor in to hiring Kliff Kingsbury? Do they keep both quarterbacks? Is there a market for Rosen? Is there a market for the top selection? Is trading down an option?

That’s created more than one outlet for speculation to emerge, and on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Cardinals QB1: Franchise Focus, former Cardinals quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Kurt Warner offered their two cents to Doug & Wolf on what they believe is taking place.

“With Kurt and I’s previous relationship with Michael Bidwill, my relationship with Steve Keim and knowing the individuals that we know that they are — they haven’t just left (Rosen) in the dark and not texted him and not talked to him,” Palmer proposed.

Warner stressed that the Cardinals owe it to Rosen to keep him informed.

“I’m a believer that he deserves an explanation,” he said. “You can say what you want — he’s an employee that you’ve put in this position. I believe everybody deserves the right to be sat down and [told] this is what’s going on here. And be honest.”

But how in-depth should those conversations be? If Palmer had a say, not very, because he thinks the Cardinals haven’t made up their mind yet.

“Now, I don’t think they need to tell him all the truth, because they’re at a point now where if they knew what they were gonna do they would have already done it,” he said.

“It’s the kind of conversation that can be really easy. ‘Look, we’re not 100 percent sure what we’re going to do. We may end up trading you. If somebody offers us a deal we can’t refuse, that may happen. If it’s not a good enough deal because we value you at such a great level then we’re not going to make it happen.'”

While Murray has met with the Cardinals on multiple occasions, Rosen was reportedly the first member of the Cardinals to show up at offseason workouts.

Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa was the overwhelming favorite going to the Cardinals in mock drafts at the start of the new year before a wave of momentum for Murray since March after he declared for the NFL Draft, forgoing a career in baseball.

“They don’t need to disclose everything,” Palmer said. “I don’t think that they owe that to him because every owner and GM has a certain card they are trying to play and you can’t let very many people know about it. I feel that they’ve had conversations with him, they’d kind of left it up in the air and at the end of the day, he is an employee, he does work for the Arizona Cardinals but I don’t think that they have to tell him everything that’s going on.

“I think they just need to be very vague and let the cards play out the way they’re gonna play.”
