The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday the signing of free agent tight end Maxx Williams a day after he hinted at the signing on Twitter and John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station confirmed it, adding the deal is a one-year contract.

Baltimore and New Orleans had expressed interest in signing Williams, according to Gambadoro.

The 2015 second-round pick by the Ravens played about a third of the offensive snaps last season, making 16 receptions on 17 targets for 143 yards. More known for his run-blocking skills, he has appeared in 38 of 48 regular season games since entering the league.

Williams, who played collegiately at Minnesota, was the 55th overall pick.

The Cardinals now have a diverse group of tight end options for first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury heading into the offseason.

The team picked up former Buffalo Bills weapon Charles Clay, a nine-year veteran, and re-signed third-year pass-catcher Ricky Seals-Jones. Arizona also selected UCLA tight end Caleb Wilson with the final pick in the 2019 NFL Draft; he is a speedier offensive option at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds.

Third-year pro Darrell Daniels, who took limited snaps last year, and undrafted rookie free agent Jerome Washington round out the tight end group at present.
