The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed infielder Wilmer Flores on the 10-day injured list due to a right foot contusion and have recalled infielder Ildemaro Vargas from Triple-A Reno, the team announced in a press release on Tuesday.

In 26 games this season, Vargas is hitting .200 with three doubles, one home run, four RBI and seven runs scored.

The switch-hitting infielder can also play a plethora of positions around the diamond as he has played at second base (14 games), third base (14 games) and shortstop (one game) in 52 career games over three years (2017-19) in a D-backs uniform.

Vargas, 27, has a slash line of .406/.513/.688 with four doubles, one triple, one home run, six RBI and four runs scored in only eight games with Triple-A Reno this season.

Last season, the 27-year-old had a .311 batting average to go along with 31 doubles, 10 triples, seven home runs, 54 RBI, 30 walks and 78 runs scored in 124 games, naming him to the Pacific Coast League mid- and postseason All-Star Teams.

Those numbers saw Vargas among the PCL’s best in hits (second), triples (tied for third), total bases (fourth) and batting average (10th). He also had an Aces-record 35-game hitting streak, the fifth-longest in PCL history.

In 42 games with Arizona this season, Flores is hitting .281 with nine doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored. He sustained his injury after being hit by a pitch in the second inning of a game against the San Francisco Giants on May 19.
