Mulipola’s HR pushes Arizona softball over Washington in WCWS opener

A go-ahead home run by Dejah Mulipola propelled Arizona softball over Washington 3-1 Thursday, sending the team into the next game of the winner’s bracket of the Women’s College World Series.
The game was tied at zero until the sixth inning when both teams traded a run each. The seventh saw each team leave two on base, including a woman on third for the Huskies in the bottom half of the inning.
In the eighth, that same, slow development of offense continued. The Wildcats struck out and popped up before Malia Martinez singled to right field, putting Mulipola in a clutch opportunity with two outs and the game tied. She fouled off three pitches in a row before hitting her fly to center field.

Arizona pitcher Taylor McQuillin was excellent on the day, going eight innings while giving up just one run and striking out seven.
Arizona got on the board with a solo home run by Jessie Harper in the sixth, but the Huskies countered the inning after as Sami Reynolds hit one of her own.
The Wildcats will face the winner of the Minnesota-UCLA game at 4 p.m. Friday on ESPN.
