Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed exited Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays with left foot soreness, the team announced.
Ahmed was removed ahead of his at-bat in the top of the third inning and was replaced by Jarrod Dyson.
There was no apparent play that showed Ahmed’s injury.
Ahmed singled in his only at-bat in the game and is hitting .268 with 4 home runs and 25 RBI this season.
If Ahmed is to miss any time with the injury, Ketel Marte will likely shift into the shortstop role for the time being.
The D-backs would miss Ahmed’s glove the most if he is forced to miss time.
The 2018 Gold Glove recipient has made just four errors in 64 games this season.
Arizona is already without infielders Jake Lamb and Wilmer Flores because of injury.
