D-backs jump on Phillies early with back-to-back-to-back home runs

The rain delay in Philadelphia stalled the start of the game between the Diamondbacks and the Phillies Monday afternoon.
It was a different story for the D-backs bats, as the team needed just 13 pitches to make it 3-0 early on.
Arizona’s top of the lineup hit not one, not two, but three straight home runs in the first inning against Philadelphia.

It’s just the second time in franchise history the team had three jacks to open up a game, with the last time being in 2017 (David Peralta/A.J. Pollock/Jake Lamb) against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals.
On the other hand, it was the first time in Phillies history that they allowed three homers to start a game.
It all started with leadoff man Jarrod Dyson.

Needing just one pitch — an 87-mph four-seam fastball — Dyson sent one flying to right field.
With the 360-foot blast, Dyson became the sixth D-back to homer on the first pitch of the game. It was also the outfielder’s second career leadoff homer.
Next up, was the hot-handed Ketel Marte.
After roping a career-high 15th homer of the season in the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, Marte only needed six pitches in Monday’s bout to make it No. 16.
Sending a 75-mph curveball 406 feet into right field, Marte made another trip around the bags, bringing the score to 2-0.
It continues to be a record year for Marte.
Entering play Monday, Marte, who’s averaging .268 from the plate, came in tied for first among D-backs batters with Eduardo Escobar with home runs (15), while sitting in second in runs scored (39), hits (74) and RBI (45).
Capping off the scoring in the inning for Arizona was left fielder David Peralta.
Following Marte’s lead, Peralta went yard on his sixth pitch of the afternoon, sending an 84-mph slider 407 feet into right-center field.
Three batters, three runs.
Peralta, who led the team in batting average (.301) and OBP (.350) ahead of Monday’s contest, now sits at nine homers to go along with 36 RBI and 66 hits this season.
With the consecutive shots, the D-backs became the second road team in MLB history with three home runs in a row to start a game.
