ASU basketball to play Saint Mary’s in non-conference game in Phoenix

Arizona State’s men’s basketball team will play the Saint Mary’s Gaels in an out-of-conference game this upcoming season.
The game will be played in Phoenix, despite its neutral site distinction, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Its actual location, date and time are still undisclosed.
The Sun Devils are looking to follow up on a season which saw them make the NCAA Tournament with a 23-11 record. ASU lost to the University of Buffalo after defeating St. John’s in the First Four round.
Backing last year up will have its challenges though, as former freshman guard Lugentz Dort and senior forward Zylan Cheatam have entered the NBA Draft and are expected to be drafted.
Saint Mary’s was also a tournament team that lost in the first round last season, despite a 22-12 record.
The game will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools, as the first came on New Year’s Eve in 1954, where ASU lost 87-82.
