The Archie Bradley experiment as a starting pitcher did not end well for the Diamondbacks against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Bradley gave up four earned runs and allowed seven baserunners in just 1.1 innings pitched.

After striking out Trea Turner to start the game, Bradley allowed four consecutive baserunners to bring the first run home.

After getting Matt Adams to pop-out, there was a chance he could have gotten out of the inning only giving up one run, but a single by Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki plated two more runs before the D-backs could get back to the dugout.

In the second, Bradley again started things off with a strikeout.

Then Turner got his revenge by earning a walk and stealing second base. He was driven in by the next batter, former D-back Adam Eaton, ending Bradley’s appearance.

It was Bradley’s first start since 2016 when he started 26 games for Arizona. Since then, he has made 168 appearances as a relief pitcher.

2019 has been Bradley’s worst season as a reliever, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and allowed 17 walks in 31.2 innings pitched coming into the day.

After the outing, Bradley’s ERA ballooned to 5.18.

Bradley had not allowed an earned run in his last four relief appearances.

Zack Godley, who relieved Bradley, did not fare much better.

After getting a double play on his first pitch in the second inning in relief of Bradley, Godley surrendered a three-run homer to Adams in the third.

The pitchers were both tasked with replacing injured starter Jon Duplantier.

His next void in the rotation is Saturday against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field.
