If you were surprised the Phoenix Suns drafted North Carolina forward Cameron Johnson with the No. 11 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, you aren’t alone.

Johnson’s Tar Heel teammate Coby White, who was picked No. 7 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, got the news during a press conference.

His face showed shock and elation for his former teammate.

“He went what?!” White said excitedly. “Wow. Wow. Wow!”

That actually sounds similar to what a lot of Suns fans are saying.

“That’s so love, bro,” White said. “If y’all know Cam, you all know how hard Cam worked. It’s a lot of people that doubt him. But wow… that’s crazy bro. Wow, that’s so crazy.”

The Suns reportedly received the No. 11 pick and forward Dario Saric from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for the No. 6 pick, which was used to draft Jarrett Culver.

Phoenix went with 6-foot-9 sharpshooter Johnson, who shot 45.7% from behind the 3-point line last season on 5.8 attempts per game. He averaged 16.9 points and 5.8 rebounds.

“I’m so happy for hm right now, yall don’t undertand,” White said. “He proved it night in, night out that he deserves to be in the conversation for a lottery pick, man.

“He shot the ball like anyone I’ve never seen before in my life.”

Johnson helped UNC go 29-7 last season and reach the Sweet Sixteen.

White, off the high of being drafted himself, was getting giddy at the podium as he thought about his former teammate going No. 11.

“I’m getting chills up here,” he said.
