D-backs’ Zack Godley to start against Giants on Saturday

The Arizona Diamondbacks have finally named a starter for their Saturday contest against the San Francisco Giants: Zack Godley will take the hill.
Manager Torey Lovullo broke the news to reporters prior to Friday’s series opener, clarifying a question mark in the D-backs’ rotation that had lingered since right-hander Jon Duplantier was placed on the injured list and reliever Archie Bradley struggled in an “opener” role against the Nationals last weekend.
Godley will be making his ninth start this season, but only his third since he lost his spot in the starting rotation after posting a 7.58 ERA through his first six starts this year.
Since the last time he started, Godley has made seven appearances, pitching 18.1 innings, allowing seven runs on 14 hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts for a 3.44 ERA. Removing a bad outing against the Nationals last weekend, a game the D-backs lost 15-5, Godley’s ERA since his last start is just 0.66.
The series against the Giants this weekend follows a three-game set against the Rockies in which the D-backs were swept at Chase Field. Fortunately, though, Arizona is 4-2 with one sweep this season against the Giants, who are expected to start right-hander Tyler Beede to face Godley.
