If you’ve never pitched in the College World Series, you have as many losses as Michigan ace and Arizona Diamondbacks draft pick Tommy Henry does in the College World Series.

Henry, a second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, improved his record to 2-0 in the tournament and 12-5 on the season in Game 1 of the College World Series Final against Vanderbilt. He nearly made it the full nine innings, throwing 8.1 and allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned) on eight strikeouts and one walk.

It was Henry’s worst performance of the two, considering the fact he went the distance against Florida State in Omaha, throwing nine shutout innings and striking out 10 while allowing only three baserunners.

Henry has been a consistent force for Michigan, posting a 3.09 ERA last season in 15 starts and entered Monday’s action with a 3.27 ERA in 18 outings.

It’s a job done for Henry, winning his last three starts in postseason play. The Wolverines lead the best-of-three series 1-0 and will get two chances to close it out.

Of the D-backs’ seven selections in the top-75 of the 2019 draft class, Henry (74th) and Arkansas outfielder Dominic Fletcher (No. 75) are the only two unsigned.
