GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Coyotes held their prospect development scrimmage on Friday, pitting Team Red against Team White at a free event at Gila River Arena.
The event capped a weeklong prospect development camp that began on Monday. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday served as practice days for the group, while Wednesday was a day of community events and involvement.
Friday’s scrimmage had an attendance of 4,021.
“We are thrilled to see our great Coyotes fans coming out in full force to see the future of our team,” president and CEO Ahron Cohen said. “I think the dramatic increase in attendance is a testament to what this community sees in the trajectory of this team.”
Before the scrimmage, the team held a town hall with general manager John Chayka and Cohen.
Team Red included prospects such as 2019 first-round pick Victor Soderstrom, forward prospect Nate Schnarr (finished ninth in the OHL in points) and 2018 second-round pick Kevin Bahl.
Team White included 2018 first-round pick Barrett Hayton, 2017 first-round pick Pierre-Olivier Joseph and goaltending prospect Ivan Prosvetov.
Matias Maccelli had two goals (one empty-netter) and an assist as Team White won 4-2 in regulation. An exhibition shootout followed.
Up next for Arizona — and the rest of the league — is NHL free agency. That begins Monday, July 1 at 9 a.m. Arizona time.
