Class A Kane County hadn’t had a player hit for the cycle in five years.

Center fielder Alek Thomas, the No. 7 prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ system, nearly did it two games in a row.

Thomas broke out of his 2-for-12 slump to record a five-hit game Tuesday and then hit for the cycle on Wednesday. He went 4-for-4 and was intentionally walked.

“These past two days I’ve done early work in the cage to tweak a few things and try to stay through the ball and I’m glad to see it translate over into the game,” he said to MiLB. “I didn’t think it would translate that well, but I’m certainly glad it did.”

It translated extremely well for Thomas. He went 9-for-10 over the two game span.

On Wednesday, Thomas got a single in the first, a triple in the third, a home run in the fifth and then a double in the eighth inning. He drove in two RBIs to lead the Cougars to a 5-4 win.

In the previous outing, he collected the single, double and triple but struck out in the ninth inning.

The last Cougars player to hit for the cycle happened almost exactly five years ago to the date on June 29, 2014, according to MiLB.

Thomas, a 19-year-old drafted in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Mount Carmel High School (Chicago), is batting .312 with eight home runs, six triples, 16 doubles and 38 RBI with 35 walks.
