When Blake Swihart was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team expected him to serve the team as a solid bat who could fill multiple positions if need be.
They probably didn’t expect him to serve up lunch and pies to veterans at Catholic Charities MANA House, but he did.
Yesterday, @BLAKESWIHART_1 – whose brother is an Army vet – visited MANA House to serve lunch and chat with homeless veterans. #DbacksGiveBack pic.twitter.com/OH4BcmXjt4

The lunch included barbecue, mac and cheese and other dishes supplied by Fry’s.
Swihart also signed hats and cards, according to the Catholic Charities Arizona Twitter page.
Swihart’s brother Jace is an Army veteran, which made the event even more important for him.
“Helping veterans, whether they come back home or whether they fall on hard times, and what they do to get them back into the community is awesome,” Swihart said about the MANA house.
Cathoic Charitites MANA House was founded in May 2008. Their mission is to provide a peer-run organization to provide basic resources for homeless and formerly homeless veterans.
