In July, the Orlando Magic lured Channing Frye away from the Phoenix Suns, signing the unrestricted free agent to a four-year, $32 million contract.
Some Suns fans may still wonder why the team didn’t match the Magic’s offer for the versatile power forward. On Friday, Suns owner Robert Sarver provided some rather revealing clarification.
“To be honest with you, we didn’t really even have a chance,” Sarver told Burns and Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “He had mentioned he was interested in coming back, and then when he was talking to Orlando, he just called and said, ‘Hey, you’ve got three minutes to match this offer.'”
