To say that Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Alex Young was dominant in his Chase Field debut could be considered an understatement.

Young threw six innings of no-hit baseball and allowed just one baserunner, a third-inning walk to Rockies catcher Tony Wolters.

He struck out three batters and was pulled from the game after just 71 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Reliever Yoshi Hirano gave up a hit to the first batter he faced, Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, eliminating the possibility of a combined no-hitter.

The only no-hitter this season was posted by Mike Fiers of the A’s when he shut out the Reds on May 7.

For Young, it was the rookies second start with the D-backs. It was his third appearance as he tossed 2.1 innings of shut out relief against the Dodgers on July 2.

He has made 20 appearances for the Reno Aces in 2019, including eight starts.

Young’s experience mostly as a reliever was the most likely reason why manager Torey Lovullo elected to go to the bullpen with the no-hitter still in-tact.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up two hits and a run to the Giants on Sunday.
