By the numbers: D-backs have highs, lows coming off All-Star break

The weekend series coming off the All-Star break left the Arizona Diamondbacks at the .500 mark as they start the second half of play.

The road series in St. Louis had its highs and lows as the team went 1-2.

Here are the key numbers following the D-backs’ roller coaster weekend in the Gateway to the West:

2

It took until Sunday’s game for Paul Goldschmidt to get a hit off his former team, but once he did, he made it count. In the bottom of the first, Goldschmidt singled to left. In his next at bat, he crushed a two-run home run off Zack Greinke.

The three errors in Saturday night’s game eventually cost the Diamondbacks the game, and the total of errors overall harped on the highs the team was able to capitalize on. On the upside, they’ve made the fewest errors in the league this season behind the Kansas City Royals and tied with the Houston Astros and Cardinals with just 41 all year.

14

The number of pitches Tim Locastro has been hit by. The outfielder ranks third in NL batters this season behind Cincinnati Reds Derek Dietrich (17) and Washington Nationals Victor Robles (16). His 14th hit by pitch comes on his 27th birthday too. Happy birthday.

4

The number of home runs the team hit over the weekend. Friday’s game featured three of the four home runs. Christian Walker and Jake Lamb each hit solo home runs with two outs on the board. All-Star Ketel Marte put the Diamondbacks ahead 4-1 in the eighth with a monster hit to right field and brought his season total for home runs to 21. Eduardo Escobar had a solo home run in Saturday’s loss.

1.5

Coming off their first series back, the Diamondbacks are now 1.5 games out of a spot in the NL Wild Card. While there’s still plenty of baseball to be played, their next home stand comes against some of their direct competition with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are just half a game back from a spot.
