Camp K is about to get underway.

The Arizona Cardinals start training camp on Thursday, and with that come discussions of what we can expect from the unofficial start of the season.

The Doug & Wolf show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station ran through some award categories to project training camp and how the next month-plus will unfold.

Here is some of the more notable hardware handed out for strictly this period before in-between Thursday and the first week of the season.

BIGGEST STORY

Doug Franz: Anything under the word Kyler

“For me, it’s very simple: anything under the word Kyler. How much is he going to run? How much is he going to throw? How much does he really know the offense?”

Ron Wolfley: The offense and how you hide it

“It’s all about the offense, Camp K. Kyler and Kliff Kingsbury. How do you hide that offense in plain sight?”

Paul Calvisi: Kyler Murray facing unique defensive schemes

“Now they gotta deal with you. The first-team defense. This is where you can get some serious reps.”

NEXT MAN UP

Franz: Robert Alford

“He was not signed to replace Patrick Peterson, but guess what your job is now.”

Wolfley: Marcus Gilbert

“Also a newcomer to the Arizona Cardinals. We all know how important the offensive line is going to be and how much better the offensive line can be and I think when you talk about the offensive line you need to talk about Marcus Gilbert as the tip of the spear.”

Calvisi: Chase Edmonds

“The Cardinals have such a massive question mark in the receiver room that David Johnson I think, maybe initially, will be more a receiver at times than he is a running back. I could see them putting a four-receiver set with [Johnson] in the slot and Chase Edmonds would be the lone running back.”

BEST NEWCOMER

Franz: J.R. Sweezy

“I think the line needs attitude and I think J.R. Sweezy brings the attitude and the physicality.”

Wolfley: Jordan Hicks

“Listen, he’s going to be the quarterback of the defense. Do you have any idea how important it is Basinonians that you have somebody out on the field that actually knows what they’re doing?”

Calvisi: Marcus Gilbert

“Andre Smith was so bad last year that he got cut middle of the season as the starting right tackle when they really didn’t have a viable backup and they just paid him off for the remainder of that year and the next year. That’s how bad he was. So Marcus Gilbert, to me, just the sheer presence. You have a legit right tackle. Solves so many ills they had.

MVP

Franz: Christian Kirk

“For how much he’s going to be able to do and prove.”

Wolfley: David Johnson

“Everyone is saying David is done! David Johnson is more motivated than I have ever seen him right now.”

Calvisi: Chandler Jones

“He looks splendicular and he’s going to prove it and he’s going to give D.J. Humphries all he can handle throughout the month of August.”
