Known as a defensive specialist at shortstop, Nick Ahmed made an impression on fans in south Florida with his bat on Saturday.
Ahmed got hold of a low 1-0 curveball with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and golfed it well over the left field wall for the second grand slam of his six-year career.

The home run extended the Diamondbacks lead to 6-1 over the Marlins and provided a nice cushion for pitcher Alex Young, who surrendered one run in the first inning – a leadoff homer to Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas.
The D-backs came into the fourth trailing before putting up a six-spot in the inning. Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta provided an RBI apiece before Escobar, Christian Walker and Jake Lamb loaded the bases for Ahmed.
The first grand slam of his career came in July 2018 against the Cubs. It was also the second grand slam by a D-back in 2019 and first since Ketel Marte’s April 5 four-run quadruple against the Red Sox.
Ahmed’s shot cruised 416 feet and had a 102 MPH exit velocity, according to MLB Savant.
Last season, Ahmed set a career high with 16 home runs. The grand slam on Saturday gave Ahmed 10 home runs this season and puts him on pace for 17.5 for 2019.
He finished the day going 2-for-4 with five RBI.
