Not the results the Arizona Diamondbacks were looking for in their DH.

While the team took the 4-2 win over the New York Yankees, things didn’t go well for designated hitter Yasmany Tomas Tuesday night.

Tomas made his first start in more than two years for the D-backs, going 0-3 in his return.

The DH got his first shot in the second inning, striking out swinging on four pitches.

Then came the fourth.

While Tomas didn’t strikeout, the at-bat was equally as frustrating, if not more. Looking at an 0-2 count with one on base, pitcher J.A. Happ put a ball in the dirt.

Instead of moving out of the way, Tomas looked to step in front of catcher Kyle Higashioka, who was trying to make a play on the ball. The two collided, with Tomas being ruled out for batter interference.

Things continued to trend downward in the sixth.

A Wilmer Flores single kicked off the inning, but was followed by a foul out from Nick Ahmed to first. Still, there was one out with one on.

Tomas then stepped up to the plate, grounding out into a double play to end the inning.

Entering play Tuesday, Tomas has recorded 295 hits (60 doubles), 131 runs, 48 home runs and 163 RBIs in 305 games played over three seasons (2015, 2016, 2017). He’s struck out 296 times and holds a .268 batting average.
