Former NFL center and current Arizona State offensive analyst Kevin Mawae was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

“Today I stand at the doorstep of football immortality,” Mawae said in his speech. “I knock on this door and I tell all of you, I am home!”

As most Hall of Fame induction speeches go, Mawae’s was emotional as he thanked his parents.

His father served 23 years in the U.S. Army while his mom showed him what it takes to be a Hall of Fame center.

“What other mom plays tackle football in the front yard with her sons?” Mawae said. “She hit hard.”

The former NFL center played for three teams over the course of his 16-year career in the Seattle Seahawks (1994-97), New York Jets (1998-2005) and Tennessee Titans (2006-2009).

Mawae was an eight-time Pro Bowler and was a First-team All-Pro seven times.

Most of those accolades came as a Jet under then-head coach Herm Edwards where he blocked for Hall of Fame running back Curtis Martin, who are now teammates once again — this time in Canton.

In Mawae’s final season, he helped lead the way to Chris Johnson’s 2,006 rushing yards with the Titans in 2009.

After being an assistant offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears in 2016, the new Hall of Fame inductee joined Edwards’ staff in March of 2018.
