The Arizona Cardinals were bit by injuries to their offensive line in 2018, and already in the new season, the same position group has a player down.

Justin Pugh, a veteran offensive lineman who played only seven games in 2018 with an MCL tear, will be out a couple of weeks with a shoulder injury, head coach Kliff Kingsbury told media on Monday.

Second-year center Mason Cole will start in Pugh’s absence.

“It’s a shoulder but shouldn’t be too long,” Kingsbury said. “We’ll rehab him and we expect him to be back here in the next couple of weeks.”

Pugh, 27, also missed time in 2017, playing only eight games due to a back injury. Prior to that, he did appear in double-digit games in four straight seasons to begin his NFL career, but has only played 16 games one time: 2013, his rookie season.

If Pugh is only out for two weeks or so, he’d figure to be back in time for the start of the regular season. The Syracuse alum will sit out this Thursday as the Cardinals play the Los Angeles Chargers for their first preseason game.

You can catch that game at 7 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
